Burning Down the House

An abandoned house in Detroit burns throughout

Story & Photos by Dennis Walus

On Jan. 3, 2008, Detroit Central Office dispatched a box alarm for a fire reported in a dwelling at Joseph Campau & Arndt streets. En route, Ladder 10 advised that the first engine would be stretching line and assumed command. The chief arrived soon after and requested an additional engine.

-The fire burned a vacant 2.5 story dwelling throughout. Crews battled the fire defensively until conditions improved and entry allowed for an interior attack. Approximately 1 hour after the alarm was signaled, the fire was extinguished.
