Ablaze in the Night

Dekalb (Ga.) Fire & Rescue quickly knock down condo fire despite lack of hydrants

Story & Photos by Christen McMakin

Dekalb (Ga.) Fire and Rescue responded to this condominium fire at 2200 hrs the night of Friday, April 4. First-arriving units encountered an advanced fire in the attic of the vacant building. Access to the condominium was limited, and without working hydrants, units were forced several hundred feet of 5" hose to nearby working hydrants to establish water. Aerial streams quickly knocked the majority of the fire out and prevented spread to nearby structures.
