Roof fire races through University of Texas Golf Club

A nearly complete University of Texas Golf Club was destroyed Dec. 26, 2007, as fire spread from the roof throughout the $8-million, 17,000-square-foot structure.

According to Hudson Bend Chief Jim Linardos, fire spread “was rapid due to high winds, low humidity and an incomplete sprinkler system.” Arriving units immediately went defensive.

Two alarms handled the fire from the Hudson Bend, Oak Hill, Austin and Volente fire departments and established control after approximately 90 minutes. No other structures were damaged.
