JEMS, the premier educational resource in the emergency medical services industry, received a Maggie for best editorial supplement/trade for “The War on Trauma: Lessons Learned from a Decade of Conflict.”The supplement, sponsored by North American Rescue, Inc. and published in the October 2008 issue of JEMS, may be downloaded at www.jems.com/resources/supplements/war_on_trauma.html
“It was an honor not just to receive the industry’s highest honor for this supplement, but one that showcased the outstanding achievements by America’s military combat medicine personnel in saving lives under the most difficult of circumstances,” said JEMS Editor-in-Chief, A.J. Heightman. “The military, by virtue of their experience treating an extremely large number of casualties in a relatively short time period, once again has led the way in trauma care innovations and presented techniques and products that work quickly and efficiently to save lives we previously thought could not be saved.”
Heightman added, “This supplement brought together experts in the field of military and civilian medicine to present new concepts, techniques and products that have proven to be lifesaving in military and tactical environments. The series of articles in the supplement illustrate why and how military and tactical medical advances should be applied to civilian EMS.”
