Rescue Training Company Celebrates 30 Years of Training Rescuers/Saving LivesRivers are dangerous places. The news is inundated with reports of someone drowning, and all too often the river claims additional victims who were attempting to save someone else. Since 1979, Rescue 3 International, a company who teaches would-be rescuers how to perform a variety of high risk rescues, has been on a crusade to change this. Along with their 30th Anniversary, company president Mike Turnbull also announced that Rescue 3 will train their 150,000 student within the next few months. Currently, Rescue 3 trains approximately 12,000 students a year in various rescue disciplines including water and flood rescue, ice rescue, technical rope rescue, animal rescue, tower safety, and boat operations. Rescue 3 came about as a result of an incident that occurred in 1979 when a member of the Tuolumne County, CA Search and Rescue team was almost swept away during a river rescue. Three members of that team decided that rescuers needed to be trained in how to properly perform water rescue so that they had a better chance of saving the victim without becoming a victim themselves. Building on this philosophy, Rescue 3 has grown to be the largest swiftwater rescue training company in the world. With an extensive network of over 500 instructors, Rescue 3’s courses are being taught in 10 languages in over 32 countries around the world.
